DeLand, FL – The DeLand Police Athletic League (PAL), in partnership with Volusia County Schools, hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Nathaniel Jackson Gym. The facility, donated by Volusia County Schools, will serve as the central hub for all PAL programs and events, marking a major step forward in supporting youth development within the community.
The Nathaniel Jackson Gym will provide a safe and welcoming space for area youth to participate in a variety of PAL programs, including fishing, boxing, cooking, hair braiding, mentorship, and more. These activities are designed to help young people build confidence, develop life skills, and strengthen their connection to the community.
Mr. Willie Johnson, PAL Director expressed his gratitude and enthusiasm, sharing,
“Being the director of PAL is my dream job, I couldn’t imagine doing anything else. This new facility gives us the opportunity to expand our reach and continue changing lives.”
Mr. Al Bouie who sits on the DeLand PAL Board along with other key individuals were also recognized for their role in securing the facility.
The DeLand Police Athletic League operates under the DeLand Police Department and serves as a unique, non-profit collaboration between law enforcement and the Greater DeLand community. A volunteer Board of Directors oversees PAL operations, ensuring that programs continue to provide positive role models, promote self-esteem, and offer safe, engaging environments for youth.
