DeLAND, Fla. — The DeLand Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred Wednesday at approximately 11:41 a.m. in the 1900 block of Greenborough Loop in the Trinity Gardens neighborhood.

According to preliminary information, the incident involved an altercation between the driver of a contracted trash truck and three individuals. The confrontation turned physical, and gunfire was exchanged.

The garbage truck driver was struck by a gunshot. He was conscious when first responders arrived and was transported by helicopter to a hospital for treatment. His condition is currently listed as stable.

The three individuals fled the immediate scene. Responding officers located and took all three into custody without further incident. They have been transported to DeLand Police headquarters, where they are being interviewed as part of the ongoing investigation.

Investigators say there is no evidence at this time that anyone else was struck by gunfire and that there is no threat to the public, as the situation is contained. 

DeLand Police detectives and crime scene personnel remain on scene actively investigating the incident. Further details will be released as soon as they become available.
