DeLand, Fl- On Sunday, November 9, 2025, at approximately 2:58 a.m., officers from the DeLand Police Department responded to 610 N. Kentucky Avenue in reference to a report of a person shot. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from two gunshot wounds. The suspect was located on scene and was immediately secured by officers. The victim was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center for treatment.
The DeLand Police Department Criminal Investigations Division responded and assumed the investigation. Detectives learned that the homeowner had been hosting a large party at the residence. Both the suspect and the victim were known to each other and had been consuming alcohol. During the course of the evening, the suspect began antagonizing the victim. At one point, the victim challenged the suspect to a physical fight. The suspect retrieved a firearm from his vehicle, and after the two engaged in mutual combat, the suspect shot the victim twice.
Multiple witnesses at the party were interviewed by detectives. The suspected firearm was recovered, hidden inside the home’s laundry room.
The suspect was identified as Dawson Gregory Summers (23). Summers was arrested and charged with Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon. He was transported to the Volusia County Jail.
