DeLand Police Arrests Daytona Beach Hit-and-Run Suspect | Suspect Taken into Custody Two Months After Injuring Two Pedestrians During Bike Week While Still Driving the Same Damaged Vehicle

DeLand, Fl. — Detectives with the DeLand Police Department Criminal Investigations Division have arrested a woman on felony warrants stemming from a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured two pedestrians during Daytona Beach Bike Week in March.

On March 7, 2026, at approximately 8:26 p.m., officers with the Daytona Beach Police Department responded to the area of Harvey Avenue near Wild Olive Avenue in reference to a hit-and-run crash involving two pedestrians. Both victims sustained serious injuries, including a fractured skull and a fractured right leg, and were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.

Witnesses at the scene followed the suspect vehicle, a white Jeep Cherokee bearing Iowa license plate LUCKI23, after it fled the area. Through the course of the investigation, the driver was identified as Leandra Marie Williams through a photographic lineup. The State Attorney's Office subsequently issued a felony warrant for Williams' arrest. Williams had been on the run since the incident.

On May 6, 2026, DeLand Police detectives observed Williams operating the suspect vehicle in the City of DeLand. Detectives conducted a traffic stop and took Williams into custody on the outstanding felony warrants. At the time of her arrest, Williams was still driving the white Jeep Cherokee, which continued to display visible damage consistent with the March crash. The vehicle was impounded and later turned over to the Daytona Beach Police Department as part of the ongoing investigation.

"Two people suffered serious injuries because a driver chose to flee rather than stop and take responsibility," said Captain P. Dice, DeLand Police Department. "We are grateful to the witnesses who had the presence of mind to take down important information. Your actions helped us find and arrest a dangerous driver."

Williams faces the following charges:

Leaving the Scene of a Crash Involving Serious Bodily Injury (F.S. 316.027(2)(b)) — Bond: Surety/Cash $25,000

Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Injury (F.S. 316.027(2)(a)) — Bond: Surety/Cash $10,000
