The Arizona Association of Chiefs of Police developed the Arizona Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ALEAP). Law enforcement accreditation consists of a systematic review of a agency's policies and practices during a self-assessment period. During this review, policies and procedures may be modified to align with the 174 standards adopted by the Arizona Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission and the Arizona Association of Chiefs Association Executive Board.
In 2020, the St. Johns Police Department was awarded initial accreditation by the Arizona Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission. At that time, the St. Johns Police Department became the ninth accredited police agency in the ALEAP Program. Today, the Program has over 50 agencies in the program.
