On Wednesday May 22, 2019 the Ephrata Police received a report that Trevor McNeil had taken his mother's car keys from her by force and had subsequently stolen her car and cash. She was also injured in the struggle, which occurred at her home in the 100 block of Washington Avenue, Ephrata. Officers brought charges of Robbery and Theft and obtained an arrest warrant for McNeil. On Thursday May 23, 2019 officers received information that McNeil may have returned to his mother's residence. Other information led police to believe that McNeil might have had a gun.
Officers responded to serve the arrest warrant. McNeil refused to surrender. Due to the concern for public and responder safety, the police elected to isolate the area and continue to elicit McNeil's surrender. McNeil continued to refuse, and police called upon additional resources.
Officers from EPD and State Police, in addition to Lancaster County SERT all coordinated efforts for a safe arrest. At 5:38pm Trevor McNeil was taken into police custody. He was arraigned before MDJ Russell and was committed to Lancaster County Prison in lieu of bail. The vehicle was located in Chester County. No firearm was found.
Additional responding agencies include Pioneer and Lincoln fire police, Ephrata Community Ambulance Association, Lancaster Countywide Communications, Ephrata Area School District, Ephrata Borough Public Works, Lancaster County District Attorney, and EPD volunteer personnel. The coordination and assistance from each of these agencies was instrumental in keeping the community safe during a tense event.
McNeil is presumed innocent.
