On Tuesday, the North Charleston Police Department's (NCPD) Traffic Unit, aided by the Crime Analysis Unit and a Patrol officer, apprehended a 40-year-old Goose Creek resident in connection with a fatal hit-and-run collision involving a highway crew member. The collision occurred on Sunday evening October 11th around 10 p.m. on Rivers Avenue and NAD Road, resulting in the worker's death on Tuesday. 

Witnesses provided a description of the suspect's vehicle, which led to its discovery on North Rhett Avenue around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The driver, identified as Carlos Alberto Castro Pineda, was subsequently charged with Reckless Vehicular Homicide, Hit and Run Resulting in Death, and Driving Under Suspension for DUI 1st Offense. 

Castro Pineda was taken into custody and transported to the Al Cannon Detention Center.
