Detectives with the North Charleston Police Department’s (NCPD) arrested a 21-year-old woman Wednesday after a 2-year-old girl was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver.

Police responded around 8:45 p.m. to Rivers Avenue near Eagle Drive following reports of a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision. The child was pronounced deceased at the scene.

According to detectives, the toddler had entered the roadway and was struck by a vehicle. An investigation led to locating the child's guardian. The circumstances surrounding the care and supervision of the juvenile were disputed by the evidence available to detectives.

The child’s guardian, identified as 21-year-old Glaimar Alejandra Ramirez Dominguez, was arrested and charged with Unlawful Conduct Toward a Child. She was booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center.

NCPD and the Charleston County Coroner's Office continue to investigate this incident. The SC Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is also investigating, due to a juvenile victim being involved.
