North Charleston police arrested a 46-year-old man Saturday on a drug charge following a foot patrol at a North Charleston hotel.
Officers were conducting the patrol shortly after 10:30 a.m. at the Travelodge, located at 7415 Northside Drive, in response to ongoing reports of narcotics use, according to police.
During the patrol, an officer saw Jeffrey David Norris and another person loitering in a stairwell. Police said Norris walked in the opposite direction after noticing the officers.
Officers stopped Norris on the other side of the building. He told them he was staying with a woman at the hotel but did not have a room card.
When officers asked whether he had anything illegal, Norris admitted he had Marijuana and removed it from a fanny pack, police said.
Officers then conducted a probable-cause search of the fanny pack and found a straight pipe containing black residue, along with a white, rock-like substance wrapped in tissue paper.
The substance weighed approximately 0.32 grams and field-tested presumptively positive for Cocaine Base.
Norris was charged with Possession of Cocaine Base and taken to the Al Cannon Detention Center.
