Members of the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office this week participated in this year’s annual National Night Out. The office’s attorneys, victim advocates, detectives, and forensic lab employees spread out across Cumberland County to enjoy a night designed to promote law enforcement-community partnerships and build neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer. District Attorney Seán M. McCormack commented, “Getting out and connecting with members of the community is an important part of our job.” 

This year the district attorney’s office used this opportunity to educate the public about the importance of ‘Safe Sleep’ practices for infants. McCormack emphasized, “This is an important message as every year our office sees at least one, and sometimes more than one, infant death due to unsafe infant sleep practices. Parents should follow the ‘ABCs’ of Safe Sleep: Alone – co-sleeping with your baby significantly increases the risk of death; Back – infants should be put to sleep on the back; Crib – place your baby to sleep in a crib, bassinet, or a pack-n-play without any blankets, pillows or stuffed animals.”
