With more electric bikes and scooters on our roadways, the Quarryville Police Department would like to remind everyone to ride safely and know the law.
In Pennsylvania:
✅ E-bikes are generally permitted anywhere traditional bicycles are allowed, unless local rules prohibit them.
✅ Riders must follow the same traffic laws as bicyclists, including obeying traffic signals, stop signs, and yielding when required.
✅ Ride in the same direction as traffic and use lights and reflectors when riding after dark.
✅ Always stay alert and avoid distractions while riding.
Electric scooters:
⚠️ Pennsylvania law is more restrictive regarding electric scooters. Many stand-up electric scooters are not currently legal to operate on public roads or sidewalks unless they meet state vehicle requirements and are properly registered, which most consumer scooters do not.
No matter what you’re riding:
🪖 Wear a properly fitted helmet.
👀 Watch for pedestrians and motorists.
📱 Keep your eyes on the road—not your phone.
🤝 Be courteous and share the road.
Safe riding helps protect everyone in our community. If you have questions about Pennsylvania’s e-bike or scooter laws, contact the Quarryville Police Department or visit PennDOT for more information.
