A 17-year-old was arrested early Thursday morning after police say he pointed a gun at a man during a road rage incident and later fired multiple shots in his direction.
North Charleston Police Department officers (NCPD) first responded just before 4 a.m. to the 7700 block of Oldridge Road after receiving a report of a road rage incident.
The victim told officers he had been attending a small gathering at his ex-girlfriend's home when the two got into an argument. He said his ex-girlfriend contacted a friend, who allegedly pointed a gun at him as he drove away. Although the victim said he never actually saw the firearm because both were inside their vehicles with the windows up, he reported seeing a green laser aimed in his direction.
Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect or his vehicle.
At approximately 5:30 a.m., officers were called back to the area of Oldridge Road and Forest Hills Drive following reports of gunfire. The victim, who had already left the scene, told officers by phone that the same juvenile suspect intentionally fired five or six rounds at him while he was stopped at the intersection.
Investigators found several spent shell casings in the roadway, evidence they said was consistent with the victim's account.
Police later located the suspect at a home in the 7700 block of Oldridge Road, where his vehicle was parked in the driveway. He was taken into custody without incident.
With the homeowner's consent, officers searched the residence for the firearm believed to have been used. While the gun was not found, investigators recovered multiple boxes of ammunition, a handgun holster, and a rifle magazine.
Police said the evidence established probable cause that the juvenile attempted to injure the victim by firing a gun in his direction.
The 17-year-old was charged with:
He was transported to the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice. The investigation remains ongoing.
