A 61-year-old man was arrested by the North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) early this morning following a brief pursuit that ended at a gas station on Dorchester Road.
At approximately 4:15 a.m., an officer observed a vehicle make an illegal left turn onto Ashley Phosphate Road by crossing a concrete median and disregarding a posted "No Left Turn" sign. After the officer activated emergency lights and sirens, the driver continued onto Cross County Road at a high rate of speed while turning off the vehicle's headlights.
The driver, identified as Albert Fitzgerald Jenkins of North Charleston, eventually stopped at the Circle K gas station on Dorchester Road. When asked why he failed to stop, Jenkins reportedly told the officer, "Because I am late for work and got scared."
Jenkins was arrested and charged with Reckless Driving. He was transported to the Al Cannon Detention Center.
