North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) officers arrested a Charleston man Saturday after allegedly attacking another man with a screwdriver.
Just before 8 a.m., officers responded to the area of Spruill Avenue near Jacksonville Road following reports of two men fighting in the roadway. Due to the seriousness of the call, officers activated their emergency equipment while responding.
When officers arrived, they found the victim suffering from multiple lacerations. The victim told police he had seen a man, later identified as 55-year-old James Allen Kinloch Jr., lingering near his home earlier that morning but chose to ignore him.
As the victim walked along the sidewalk on Spruill Avenue, Kinloch allegedly confronted him, asking why he was looking at him and stating, "There's nothing to see here." The victim said he continued walking without responding.
According to the police report, Kinloch then crossed the street, threw rocks at the victim, and began assaulting him. During the attack, Kinloch allegedly used a screwdriver to strike the victim several times in the arm, leg, and back. The victim's arm was already in a sling due to a previous injury.
The victim was eventually able to take the screwdriver away from Kinloch and escape. He told officers that Kinloch then fled the scene on a bicycle after taking his wallet.
Using the description provided by the victim, officers located Kinloch a short time later. He was arrested and transported to the Al Cannon Detention Center, where he faces charges of Assault and Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature.
