North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) officers arrested an 18-year-old man and a 16-year-old juvenile on firearm charges Saturday afternoon after locating a vehicle possibly related to a shooting near Gaynor Street and Railroad Avenue.
Officers spotted the vehicle of interest at the intersection of Rivers Avenue and Remount Road near Interstate 26 and conducted a high-risk traffic stop. All four occupants were detained while officers investigated.
Police identified the driver as 18-year-old Kevin Bernard Douglas Jr. of North Charleston. Officers said Douglas, who is prohibited from possessing a firearm due to a prior violent crime conviction, was found with a handgun under his seat loaded with 15 rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber. He was charged with Possession of a Weapon by a Person Convicted of a Violent Crime and booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center.
The front-seat passenger, a 16-year-old juvenile, was charged with Juvenile Possession of a Firearm and transported to the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice.
The two other occupants of the vehicle were released without charges. Officers recovered a total of three handguns during the investigation.
