Officers with the North Charleston Police Department's (NCPD) Central Nights Team 1 arrested a convicted felon early Friday morning after discovering three firearms in a motel room on Rivers Avenue.
At approximately 1:35 a.m., officers responded to the Express Stay Inn following a report of a trespasser. Upon arrival, a motel employee told officers the individual who had previously been issued a trespass notice was inside one of the rooms.
As officers approached, they looked through a window and observed two men inside appearing to place items underneath the bed. A motel employee then opened the door, and officers encountered the trespassing suspect, identified as 42-year-old Mark Lamar Wolfe of North Charleston.
According to police, Wolfe told officers that a woman stayed in the room but was out with her boyfriend. However, the motel manager stated that only a female occupant was authorized to stay in the room and that no one else was permitted inside.
Officers conducted a protective sweep of the room and found three handguns hidden underneath the bed. A records check revealed that Wolfe had multiple prior felony convictions, including violent offenses, making it illegal for him to possess firearms.
Wolfe was arrested and charged with Possession of a Weapon by a Person Convicted of a Violent Crime. He was transported to the Al Cannon Detention Center.
