A North Charleston man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a hit-and-run crash that injured a woman while she was securing a child in her vehicle.
Officers with the North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) responded to the 1900 block of Hawthorne Drive on June 13 after receiving reports of a hit-and-run collision involving injuries.
The victim told officers that two vehicles appeared to be speeding through the area when one of them struck the rear passenger-side door of her parked vehicle. At the time of the crash, she was buckling a child into the back seat with the door partially open.
The impact forced the door into the victim, pinning her between the vehicle and the open door. She reported being in pain, and responding officers observed that she had visible injuries.
During the investigation, officers identified the driver as 41-year-old Thaddeus Elias Simmons of North Charleston. Authorities determined Simmons was allegedly involved in a dispute and was carelessly pursuing another vehicle through the neighborhood when the crash occurred.
Officers concluded that Simmons' vehicle was responsible for striking the victim's car. He was taken into custody at his residence Tuesday evening and charged with Hit and Run with Injury.
Following his arrest, Simmons was transported to the Al Cannon Detention Center, where he was booked on the charge.
