On June 9, 2026, Jay Lamar Stauffer (age 63) entered pleas before the Honorable Jessica E. Brewbaker to Indecent Assault of a Child and Corruption of Minors. Stauffer was immediately sentenced to a term of incarceration followed by a consecutive period of supervised probation.
Stauffer was previously convicted in 2011 of a multitude of sexual offenses against children and had been previously designated as a Sexually Violent Predator. In late 2024, following his release from prison, Stauffer sent handwritten letters to various family and community members detailing a lifetime of sexual offending. The letters were turned over to the Pennsylvania State Police who discovered multiple previously unreported victims, including this now-adult victim.
The victim explained that when she was approximately 8 years old, Stauffer rubbed her breasts and buttocks under her clothing when she was at a sleepover at his residence. Stauffer told the victim not to tell anyone, particularly his wife since she would get jealous.
During the proceeding, the victim bravely spoke to Judge Brewbaker about the burden of carrying Stauffer’s crimes all these years and asked the Court to protect other children in the community from becoming his next victim. Judge Brewbaker reaffirmed Stauffer’s Sexually Violent Predator designation and ordered that Stauffer have no contact with any children under the age of 18 for the duration of his sentence.
The District Attorney’s Office commends the victim for her courage to come forward and make a statement in open court about Defendant’s sexual crimes. The District Attorney’s Office thanks Trooper Kaleb Reitz for his diligent investigation and Victim Advocate Jordan Kent for dedication and support of the victim. This case was prosecuted by First Assistant District Attorney Courtney Hair LaRue.
