North Charleston Police (NCPD) arrested a 19-year-old man early Friday morning after he was allegedly caught breaking into multiple vehicles at an apartment complex.
Around 4 a.m., officers responded to the Assembly Apartments on O'Hear Avenue following a report of a person entering vehicles in the parking lot. According to the caller, the suspect was checking nearly every vehicle in the area.
Responding officers quickly located the suspect, identified as Montrell Keon Warthen Jr., in a breezeway at the nearby Factory Apartments. While searching the area, officers discovered several vehicles that appeared to have been rummaged through, with belongings scattered inside and vehicle consoles left open.
Warthen was detained and later positively identified as the individual seen entering the vehicles. During the investigation, officers recovered a missing key fob belonging to one of the victims from Warthen's possession.
Police reported that at least six vehicles showed signs of being searched. Warthen was charged with three counts of Breaking Into Motor Vehicles and was transported to the Al Cannon Detention Center.
