The North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) is proud to announce the graduation of Deputy Chief Alfred Kuechler Jr. from the School of Police Staff and Command (SPSC) at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
Deputy Chief Kuechler successfully completed the rigorous 22-week Staff and Command program as a member of SPSC Class #615, which consisted of 13 law enforcement professionals from across the country. Since its establishment by Northwestern University’s Center for Public Safety in 1983, the program has graduated more than 25,000 law enforcement leaders nationally and internationally.
The School of Police Staff and Command provides upper-level academic instruction through 27 core blocks of study, along with additional elective coursework. Key areas of instruction include leadership, human resources, employee relations, organizational behavior, applied statistics, planning and policy development, budgeting, and resource allocation.
Participants are challenged through a comprehensive curriculum that includes written examinations, projects, presentations, quizzes, and the completion of a staff study paper. Upon successful completion of the program, students may earn six undergraduate credit units from Northwestern University.
Founded in 1936, Northwestern University’s Center for Public Safety was established to expand university-based education and professional training opportunities for the law enforcement community. Over the years, the Center has broadened its mission and now offers a wide range of programs in police training, management development, and executive leadership.
The North Charleston Police Department anticipates significant benefits from Deputy Chief Kuechler’s participation in this prestigious program. Graduates of the School of Police Staff and Command frequently advance to senior leadership positions within their agencies and contribute valuable expertise to their organizations.
Please join us in congratulating Deputy Chief Kuechler on this outstanding achievement!
