A Goose Creek man was arrested Tuesday after North Charleston police (NCPD) discovered he was driving with a suspended license as a Habitual Traffic Offender.
An officer was finishing a traffic stop around 12:20 p.m. at the intersection of Rivers Avenue and Midland Park Road when he noticed a vehicle stopped at a red light with its engine being excessively revved.
When the traffic signal turned green, the driver accelerated rapidly, causing the rear tires to lose traction and perform a burnout. The officer then initiated a traffic stop.
During the stop, the driver, identified as 23-year-old Deny Cruz Gonzales, was asked to provide his driver's license, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance. Cruz Gonzales reportedly told the officer that his license was “beyond suspended.”
A records check through the South Carolina DMV revealed that his license had been suspended under Habitual Traffic Offender status and will remain suspended until May 15, 2030.
Cruz Gonzales was arrested and transported to the Al Cannon Detention Center. Police also issued him a warning for the burnout.
