A traffic stop conducted by officers with the North Charleston Police Department's South Evenings Team 1 on Friday resulted in the seizure of suspected Cocaine, a firearm, and the arrest of a North Charleston man.

At approximately 3:45 p.m., an officer patrolling near Rivers Avenue in the Chicora-Cherokee community observed a vehicle leaving a side road. According to the officer, the driver appeared to cover his face after noticing the marked patrol vehicle. The officer also observed what appeared to be illegal tint on the vehicle's front windshield.

The officer followed the vehicle and observed several traffic violations, including multiple improper lane changes and an improper turn onto Dorchester Road in front of an oncoming vehicle. The driver then attempted to enter the DSS building on Rivers Avenue, prompting the officer to initiate a traffic stop.

Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer made contact with the driver and a passenger, identified as 46-year-old Aaron Jose Dawson II. Police reported that Dawson appeared visibly nervous during the encounter.

After detecting the odor of Marijuana coming from the vehicle, the officer asked Dawson to step outside. During a pat-down search, the officer recovered a large plastic bag containing a white powdery substance. The substance weighed approximately 30 grams and field-tested positive for Cocaine.

A subsequent probable-cause search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a revolver in the center console. Officers also located additional ammunition inside a backpack.

Dawson was charged with Trafficking Cocaine, Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. He was transported to the Al Cannon Detention Center.
