The North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) arrested a 24-year-old Summerville woman after responding to a fatal collision yesterday on Bridge View Dr.

Yesterday, our Traffic Unit responded to a fatal collision on Bridge View Dr. While investigating the collision, an uninvolved vehicle arrived and the driver Kaitlen Zaran Nelson made contact with investigating officers to advise she knew the deceased subject. Officers immediately noticed indicators of impairment while interacting with Nelson. A field investigation was conducted and Nelson was subsequently arrested for impaired driving. 

Nelson was transported to the Al Cannon Detention Center where she submitted to breath testing. A breath sample was obtained, with Nelson registering a 0.15% BAC. A check of her driving record also revealed she was actively suspended in SC.

Nelson was charged with Driving Under the Influence 1st Offense and Driving Under Suspension 3rd or Subsequent Offense.
