Detectives with the North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) on Wednesday charged Mario Lavell Burgess in connection with a February shooting in North Charleston.
The incident happened on February 23 in the 8400 block of Yadkin Circle after officers responded to reports of gunfire. Investigators said a custody exchange between a man and woman turned into an argument. During the dispute, one man allegedly fired a shot into the air, which led to additional gunfire coming from a nearby apartment.
Authorities said multiple shots were exchanged, damaging two apartments and two parked vehicles. No injuries were reported.
Following an investigation, police arrested Burgess of North Charleston, who was already being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center. He faces charges of Assault and Battery 1st Degree, Firing into a Dwelling, and Felony Possession of a Firearm.
Burgess is the second person charged in connection with the shooting.
