Officers with the North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) arrested a man Friday evening on multiple drug charges after a traffic stop.
Officers were doing proactive patrols of the Ashley Phosphate Road area around 6 p.m. due to ongoing concerns about narcotics activity. During the patrol, they observed a vehicle pull into a motel known for frequent drug-related incidents and leave a few minutes later.
Shortly after, officers stopped the vehicle at the intersection of Stall Road and Carter Road for failing to stop at a stop sign. The driver, identified as 43-year-old Fernando Guadalupe, told officers he had been giving someone a ride to the motel. Police recognized Guadalupe from prior drug-related convictions.
Guadalupe consented to a search of the vehicle. Inside the center console, officers found an open cigarette pack containing a small off-white rock-like substance. The substance, weighing about 0.58 grams, tested presumptively positive for cocaine and fentanyl.
Guadalupe was taken into custody and charged with Possession of Cocaine (third or subsequent offense) and Possession with intent to Distribute Fentanyl. He was transported to the Al Cannon Detention Center.
