Authorities with the North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) arrested 41-year-old Carlos Eduardo Araujo on Tuesday in connection with an incident involving a minor.

Police say the investigation began on January 8, 2026, when officers were called to Sablewood Street. A woman reported that her son had left home around midnight and later called asking to be picked up. At the time, he told her he had been abused, though she did not yet know the details. She identified the suspect as a family friend who was staying at the location where the incident allegedly took place.

Officers from NCPD, along with the Charleston Police Department, located the suspect at his workplace. Investigators noted that he was still communicating with the victim by text while officers were there.

Further investigation determined that Araujo had shown sex toys to the juvenile. He was charged with Disseminating Harmful Materials to a Minor and was taken into custody at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
