North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) arrested a Moncks Corner man Monday night after he allegedly robbed a restaurant while armed with a knife.
Officers were called around 8:30 p.m. to Taqueria El Manatial on Stafford Road for a reported disturbance. When police arrived, they found two men holding down a third man, later identified as 44-year-old Thomas Matthew Speissegger. The men told officers they had restrained him after he threatened them with a knife. Police detained Speissegger, though a search at the scene did not recover a weapon.
According to investigators, Speissegger had visited the restaurant earlier that day and later returned, claiming he received fewer tacos than he paid for. When staff refused to give him a refund, he allegedly became angry, pulled out a knife, and demanded money. After an employee said they would call police, Speissegger fled.
Police say he soon came back, again threatening workers with the knife before grabbing a tip jar containing an unknown amount of cash and running off. The employees chased him down and held him until officers arrived.
Speissegger was charged with Armed Robbery and Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime. He was booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center.
