A 22-year-old North Charleston man was arrested early Monday morning after officers say he was caught breaking into vehicles at an apartment complex.
Officers with the North Charleston Police Department responded around 3:30 a.m. to the Park Circle Village Apartments following a report of someone entering vehicles. The caller told dispatchers the suspect was inside a car outside one of the buildings and was later seen walking toward a building before disappearing from view.
When officers arrived, they observed that a vehicle had been rummaged through. While canvassing the area, an officer spotted a man crawling between two cars near one of the buildings. The officer ordered the suspect to his knees and placed him in handcuffs, noting that he matched the description provided by the caller.
A second officer located a ski mask, skull cap, glass-breaking tool and a set of keys about 12 feet from where the suspect had been seen crawling.
Further investigation identified the suspect as 22-year-old Antonio Bennett. Police determined Bennett was also in possession of a stolen vehicle.
Bennett was taken into custody and charged with receiving stolen goods, possession of burglary tools, and two counts of tampering with a motor vehicle. He was transported to the Al Cannon Detention Center.
