Good Afternoon North Charleston Police Department and Esteemed Members of Our Community,
It is with great pride and sincere gratitude that I share the success of the 2026 Cops Athletic Program (C.A.P.) Winter Spelling Bee, held on January 28th at 6:30 PM in the North Charleston City Council Chambers at City Hall, 2500 City Hall Lane, North Charleston, South Carolina.
This impactful educational event brought together over 17 outstanding middle school scholars representing Allegro Charter School, Jerry Zucker Middle School, Northwoods Middle School, Military Magnet Academy, School of the Arts, Morningside Middle School, River Oaks Middle School, and Deer Park Middle School. The atmosphere was filled with excitement, determination, and encouragement as our student's demonstrated confidence, focus, and academic excellence.
The competition spanned an impressive 12 rounds, culminating in a hard-fought finish with the winning word, “Mitosis.” We proudly congratulate our top spellers:
1st Place Champion: Ford Earle — Allegro Charter School (Travel Trophy)
2nd Place: Hooper Williams — School of the Arts
3rd Place: Riley Stamper — Deer Park Middle School
Each participant exemplified perseverance, courage, and grace under pressure, making this year’s Winter Bee truly memorable.
We were also honored to have over 100 community members in attendance, whose presence and encouragement reinforced the importance of surrounding our youth with support, belief, and opportunity. Events like this highlight the power of community partnership and shared investment in the next generation.
A special thank you to the Charleston County School District, Dorchester County School District 2, the Mayor’s Office, City Council Members, and every volunteer, supporter, and partner who contributed in any way. Your commitment to our youth and community does not go unnoticed.
The Cops Athletic Program remains committed to bridging the gap between law enforcement and the community by engaging our youth through education, mentorship, and positive experiences. Together, we are guiding our young people, strengthening trust, and showing them the way forward.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a success. Let us continue building, supporting, and uplifting the future of North Charleston together.
