Public Safety Announcement: Protect Yourself from Scam Phone Calls
The Camp Hill Police Department is warning residents to be cautious of scam phone calls targeting our community. Scammers are using various tactics to trick individuals into divulging personal information or sending money.
Here are some tips to help you avoid falling victim to these scams:
- Be wary of unsolicited calls: If you receive a call from an unknown number or a number you don't recognize, be cautious. Scammers often use fake numbers to make their calls appear legitimate.
- Don't give out personal information: Never provide personal information such as your Social Security number, bank account numbers, or credit card information to unknown callers.
- Verify the caller's identity: If a caller claims to be from a government agency, bank, or other organization, hang up and call the organization directly to verify the caller's identity.
- Don't send money: Never send money to someone you don't know or haven't met in person. Scammers often demand payment in the form of gift cards or wire transfers.
If you receive a suspicious call, hang up and report it to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) . Remember, it's always better to err on the side of caution when dealing with unsolicited phone calls.
Stay safe, and stay informed!
