On Monday afternoon the Ephrata Police were notified of a medical call involving an employee of Adamstown Elementary School. The employee had noticed an unidentified white substance on the playground and felt ill after being in proximity to it.
Adamstown School administration acted quickly to protect the staff and students, and to summon emergency services.
SRO Eric Fisher of the East Cocalico Township Police responded in concert with EPD, as well as Reinholds Ambulance, Adamstown Fire Company, and ultimately Lancaster County Haz-Mat. The employee was taken to WellSpan, ECH for treatment. WellSpan activated their Disaster Response Team as a precaution.
A sample of the substance field tested negative for dangerous drugs by EPD. It was also tested for other hazardous material by Haz-Mat and was again negative. According to Lancaster County Haz-Mat, the substance was salt.
“We are blessed to have such dedicated school administrators and emergency services in our area,” said Chris McKim, Ephrata’s police chief, “The coordination and communication among the officials truly helps to enhance safety for everyone.”
