Officers with the North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) arrested a 19-year-old man Tuesday night after officers allegedly discovered Marijuana and a firearm during a patrol in the Dorchester Waylyn community.
An officer was proactively patrolling the community to increase our police presence when she observed a vehicle parked with its lights on near the intersection of Gary Drive and Constitution Avenue at around 11pm.
As the officer approached the vehicle, she saw two males sitting inside. While looking through the rear passenger-side window, she reportedly observed a large plastic bag containing what appeared to be Marijuana in the driver's-side door pocket.
The officer instructed both occupants to exit the vehicle and requested additional units to respond. The driver, identified as 19-year-old Vinson Bernard Brown Jr., told officers the vehicle belonged to him.
Following a probable-cause search of the vehicle, officers recovered a bag containing approximately 117.5 grams of suspected Marijuana, a handgun with an extended magazine loaded with 11 rounds and one round chambered, and a green camouflage ski mask located on the front passenger-side floorboard.
Police said the suspected Marijuana was field-tested and returned a presumptive positive result for Marijuana.
Brown was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana and Distribution of a Controlled Substance Within Proximity of a School or Park. He was transported to the Al Cannon Detention Center.
The passenger was detained during the investigation but was later released without charges.
