The following cases and hearings were handled by the District Attorney's office the week of February 10, 2014.
February 14, 2014 - Harrisburg Man Sentenced to 10 – 20 years in State Prison for Armed Home Invasion Robbery - Commonwealth v. Therion Watson Therion Watson, 46, of Harrisburg was sentenced February 14, 2014 to serve 10 to 20 years in a state correctional institute after he was found guilty by the Honorable Judge Richard A. Lewis for charges of Felony 1 Robbery, Felony 1 Burglary, Felony 1 Criminal Conspiracy to Commit Robbery, and Felony 2 Possession of Firearm by Former Convict. Detective Donald Heffner of the Harrisburg Bureau of Police is the arresting officer. Deputy District Attorney Christopher Jason handled this case on behalf of the Commonwealth.
In the evening hours of November 11, 2010 Watson and co-defendant William Holmes approached the victim outside his home on 605 North 17th Street in Harrisburg City and ordered that he enter the home. Both co-defendants threatened the victim with weapons: Watson had a handgun, and Holmes had a hammer. Watson and Holmes followed the victim to his apartment inside the residence, and stole a safe from the victim. In the process Holmes struck the victim with the hammer, while Watson stood back wielding the handgun. The victim ultimately escaped out the back door of his apartment. Watson was extradited back to Dauphin County almost nine months later (and almost three months after the issuance of a warrant for his arrest) when he was arrested in North Carolina in a stolen vehicle. Due to the defendant’s lengthy and violent criminal history, he was subject to ten year mandatory minimum sentences for the robbery and burglary charges, as well as a five year sentence on the firearm charge.
February 13, 2014 - Jury finds man guilty in Domestic Violence case- Commonwealth v. Heriberto Amaro: The Commonwealth prosecuted Heriberto Amaro for several offenses for the assault of his then-girlfriend, threats made to her regarding making a police report, and the shooting of her mini-van all on September 7, 2012. After a two day jury trial before the Honorable Richard A. Lewis, Amaro was found guilty of one count of Simple Assault and one count of Criminal Conspiracy. This was the second time the Commonwealth tried this defendant for the same offenses, as the first trial ended in a mistrial shortly before its conclusion. Prior to the trial, Kevin Garcia, a co-defendant in the case, pled guilty to his involvement in the case and received 2-4 years of incarceration followed by 24 months of probation. Amaro is set to be sentenced on 2/18/14 for his crimes. Deputy District Attorney Abby Trovinger prosecuted this case for the Commonwealth.
February 11, 2014 - Active Warrant for Man Charged with Criminal Attempt Homicide - Commonwealth v. Anthwan Emerson - Anthwan Emerson, 27, of Harrisburg has an active bench warrant after he failed to appear before the Honorable Judge Scott Arthur Evans on February 11, 2014 for trial on charges including Criminal Attempt to Commit Homicide, Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Restraint, Robbery and Possession of Firearm by Former Convict. February 6, 2014 - Charges for the theft of an 8 foot tall fiberglass rooster bound over for court - Commonwealth v. Timothy Rowbottom - Magisterial District Judge William Wenner bound charges of Theft by Receiving Stolen Property against Timothy Rowbottom to the Court of Common Pleas. The third-degree felony charge filed by Detective Mark Brumaghim alleges that Mr. Rowbottom possessed an eight foot tall fiberglass rooster stolen from a restaurant in Lower Paxton Township. Deputy District Attorney Phillip Kirchner handled this case on behalf of the Commonwealth.
