On Wednesday evening, North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) patrol officers seized three handguns and charged a juvenile in connection with two of the weapons.
Just before 7:30 p.m., officers were conducting proactive patrols in the area of Rivers and Cosgrove Avenues when they observed a vehicle with a defective brake light. A traffic stop was initiated on Rivers Avenue near Dorchester Road.
The vehicle had three occupants. The driver informed officers that his license was suspended. During the stop, officers located one handgun inside the vehicle.
One of the passengers, a juvenile, was found in possession of a duffle bag containing two additional handguns. He was charged with two counts of possession of a firearm by a person prohibited from doing so. He was released to the custody of his mother on a custodial promise.
Warrants are currently being sought for the second passenger in connection with the handgun found in the vehicle.
