On Tuesday afternoon, North Charleston Police Department patrol officers apprehended a minor in possession of a firearm. While patrolling the Spruill and Reynolds Avenues area due to recent gun violence concerns, officers noticed a juvenile riding an electric bicycle in the opposite direction of traffic around 4 p.m.
The suspect failed to stop for blue lights and sirens and was seen reaching into his waistband while attempting to flee. He abandoned the bicycle at the Chicora Arms Apartments and ran into an apartment, where officers quickly set up a perimeter.
The juvenile eventually exited the apartment and was detained without further incident. A subsequent search of the apartment revealed drugs and a handgun in a bedroom. The suspect was charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Person Unlawful.
