North Charleston Police Department officers arrested a Charleston County man early Sunday morning after responding to a report of a suspect allegedly threatening his girlfriend with a stolen pistol.
Shortly after 1 a.m., officers were dispatched to an apartment complex on Dorchester Road. The caller reported that the suspect was en route to the location with a stolen firearm. Upon arrival, officers located the suspect, identified as 23-year-old Dequante Walker-Washington, standing outside the apartment. He told officers he was there to visit his girlfriend, who was not answering her phone.
Given the nature of the call, officers conducted a safety frisk after the suspect refused to answer whether he was carrying a weapon. A loaded handgun was found in his waistband. Further investigation revealed the firearm had been reported stolen in another jurisdiction.
Walker-Washington was arrested and charged with Possession of a Stolen Pistol. He was booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center.
