On Tuesday February 18th the York City Police Department will be promoting the following Officers:
Officer Ames to Sergeant.
Sergeant Jay to Lieutenant.
Lieutenant Wentz to Captain.
Officer Ames has been with the York City Police Department since June 2008. Prior to joining the department Ames served in the United States Marine Corp. In his time here he has served in patrol, on NEU, on Nuisance Abatement, as a task force officer for the US Marshals Service and as a firearms instructor for the department. Officer Ames also currently serves as a team leader for the York County Quick Response Team.
Sergeant Jay has been with the York City Police Deptartment since May of 2000. Prior to joining the the department he graduated from Shippensburg University in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. In his time with the department Sergeant Jay has had many assignments, some of which include: Field Training Officer, Crime Scene Technician, Neighborhood Enforcement Unit officer, and patrol Sergeant. Most recently Sergeant Jay was the supervisor of the GVI (Group Violence Initiative) Unit.
Lieutenant Wentz was hired in February of 1991 and worked patrol for approximately 14 years on numerous shifts. He then became the Nuisance Abatement Officer which is a position he held for nearly 10 years. In 2005 while in Nuisance Abatement he was awarded Officer of the Year by both York City and York County. He was then promoted to Sergeant where he was initially a Patrol Supervisor and then supervised the Neighborhood Enforcement Units. Wentz was later promoted to Lieutenant and was assigned to the Detective Division.
These promotions will occur on Tuesday February 18th, 2020 at 1:00 PM at City Council Chambers located at 101 S. George St. York PA, 17405.
