Fire Officials are reminding residents to be sure to keep the area around fire hydrants clear. During a fire or other emergencies, seconds count. Firefighters rely on quick access to hydrants to establish a water supply, and even a few extra moments spent digging out a hydrant can make a critical difference.
We understand that during a snow emergency or snow-alert parking is limited, but please avoid parking within 15 feet on either side of a fire hydrant. This space is critical for firefighters to safely and quickly connect hose lines.
If there’s a hydrant near your home or business, please take a few minutes after snowfall to clear at least 3 feet around it and a clear path to the street. Your help could save valuable time—and lives.
