The Hanover Borough Police Department has recently investigated numerous motor vehicle thefts and thefts from motor vehicles at various locations throughout the borough. The investigation has revealed that at least two young male subjects are responsible for these crimes. The male subjects are reported to be wearing hooded sweatshirts, jackets, and gloves.  The crimes are being committed during times of darkness from late evening until early morning hours.  

Anyone observing suspicious persons or activity is asked to call 911 immediately to report.  Anyone having information on any recent thefts that have occurred within the borough should contact the police department at 717-637-5575, Monday – Friday from 8:00 am until 4:30 pm.

Additionally, these thefts are crimes of opportunity and the majority could have been prevented.  It is suggested that vehicle owners:

• Lock the doors to their vehicles at all times when not in use,

• Do not let keys or key fobs to the vehicle inside or outside the vehicle,

• If possible, park in well lighted areas,

• Do not let running vehicles unattended,

• Remove all valuables from the vehicle or place them out of sight, and

• Considered installing security cameras that surveil where your vehicle(s) is parked.
