Greensburg, PA -- Westmoreland County District Attorney Nicole W. Ziccarelli is putting out a warning after state police reported a local woman successfully avoided falling victim to a telephone scam. 

An Export woman reported to Pennsylvania State Police that she received a suspicious phone call February 6, 2023, from someone seeking money in an attempted scam. 

Before sending $5,000 to the reported scammers, she called the state police barracks to report it which thwarted the transaction and prevented the victim from losing thousands of dollars. 

Investigators are asking residents to be mindful of these types of scams and advise people to never give out any personal information, never buy gift cards as a form of payment, hang up and call police to report fraudulent phone calls.
