Greensburg, PA -- A Westmoreland County Common Pleas Judge sentenced a Greensburg man to serve up to 5 years in prison for robbing a Hempfield Township bank in 2021.
Jonathan Smith, 31, pled guilty in January to charges of robbery, theft, receiving stolen property and terroristic threats.
He was sentenced on Monday, April 1, 2024 to serve 2.5 to 5 years with credit for nearly a year of time served.
Smith entered the Key Bank on East Pittsburgh Street in November of 2021 with his face covered and handed the teller an orange index card that demanded man and implied he was armed.
Pennsylvania State Police investigated the robbery and with few substantial leads, troopers were able to develop DNA left on the demand note that matched Smith.
Smith got away with more than $3,000 dollars.
District Attorney Nicole Ziccarelli thanks Assistant District Attorney Adam Barr for prosecuting this case and Trooper Shane McClelland for his relentless effort in solving this crime.
