Vandergrift, PA -- A North Carolina man is facing criminal charges after police said he scammed a DoorDash employee out of hundreds of dollars.
In January, the victim initially reported the fraud claim to Allegheny Township Police before it was turned over to Vandergrift Police.
The victim told investigators she was working for DoorDash delivering order when she received a phone call from a number she believed was affiliated with DoorDash.
The caller claimed to be a DoorDash employee and told the victim there was an issue with her last order and she had to cancel it and check her account activity.
The caller allegedly told the victim to remove her funds from her DoorDash account and transfer them to a Cash App account that was later identified as belonging to Scott Olson.
The victim was then instructed to remove funds from her personal checking account and send the funds to the same Cash App account.
In total, the victim sustained a total loss of nearly $300.
After the caller hung up, the victim became suspicious of the conversation and contacted DoorDash directly. DoorDash relayed that the phone call did not originate from the company and was likely a scam.
The victim claimed she relayed some personal information over the phone to the caller including the address of her Vandergrift residence.
Vandergrift Police assumed the investigation and executed a search warrant associated with the Cash App account the victim transferred the money to.
Records provided to police indicated that the account was associated with Scott Olson, of Pikeville, North Carolina.
The telephone number used to call the victim was also associated with Olson, according to police.
Olson is facing charges of unlawful use of computer and computer crimes, access device fraud, theft, and impersonating a public servant.
