Latrobe, PA -- A Scottdale man awaiting trial on kidnapping charges stemming from an October 2025 incident was taken into custody on Wednesday evening after a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Shawn Prince, 29, was charged by Scottdale Police after allegedly kidnapping a woman and taking her to Kentucky where Prince was apprehended. Prince was released from jail after posting bail.
In early January of 2026, Prince was charged by Rostraver Police with simple assault, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Investigators learned Prince was believed to be staying at a residence on Spring Street in Latrobe.
As Latrobe Police attempted to serve the warrant this week, Prince escaped out of a back window and fled.
On Wednesday evening, Latrobe Police, Pennsylvania State Police, and deputies from Westmoreland County Sheriff's Office learned Prince was believed to be back at the Spring Street residence and was not permitted in the residence or on the property.
Deputies attempted to serve the warrant by knocking on the door of the residence and heard movement from inside.
After several minutes, police forced entry into the home and observed the door was barricaded by a large couch.
Prince could be heard from an upstairs bedroom and allegedly made phone calls that he had a knife and was going to inflict self-harm.
Deputies said Prince attempted to escape from a window and retreated back into the bedroom before he could be taken into custody.
After several minutes and a loss of communication with Prince, deputies breached the door and located Prince with severe lacerations to his arm and a significant amount of blood in the room.
Officers applied tourniquets to Prince's arm and transported him to the hospital for treatment before Prince was remanded to the Westmoreland County Prison and denied bail.
Prince is facing additional charges of burglary, criminal trespass, and flight to avoid apprehension.
