Salem Township, PA -- Pennsylvania State Police, in cooperation with the Westmoreland County District Attorney's Office, filed charges against a West Virginia man accused of causing a fatal crash in March of 2025.
Investigators allege Isaac Stemple, 23, ran a steady red light at the intersection of Route 22 and Route 819 in Salem Township.
Stemple was arraigned on charges of homicide by vehicle, reckless endangerment, and 10 summary offenses. He was released on $100,000 unsecured bail.
Stemple was driving a tractor-trailer on Route 22 at approximately 7 a.m. when he approached the intersection at Route 819 in Salem Township.
Two vehicles, including one driven by Rene Davis, 60, were in the middle of the intersection when the truck Stemple was driving collided into both vehicles.
Davis was driving a school van at the time, alone, when she was struck. She died as result of multiple blunt force injuries.
Stemple allegedly told troopers the sun was glaring in his eyes as he approached the intersection and could not see what color the traffic signal was before impact.
Troopers said a 10-second dash camera video from inside the truck showed a steady red signal at the intersection, and while one of the visible traffic lights was obscured by a sun glare, the other two red traffic signals were visible.
The driver of the third vehicle involved was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Stemple is expected to be back in court for a preliminary hearing in March.
