Greensburg, PA -- A Latrobe man was sentenced to serve 10 to 20 years in prison for supplying and delivering the drugs that caused the fatal overdose of another Latrobe man.
Westmoreland County Common Pleas Judge Timothy Krieger sentenced Zachary Dunlap on December 27, 2024 in an emotionally charged sentencing hearing.
Dunlap, 31, was found guilty on all counts of drug delivery resulting in death, criminal conspiracy and delivery of a controlled substance in October.
Latrobe Police investigated the overdose that led to Robert J. Verscharen’s death in January of 2021.
Dunlap supplied the narcotics to a woman who then gave the stamp bags to Verscharen.
Autopsy results showed that the victim died from a fentanyl overdose.
Upon his conviction in the fall, Westmoreland County District Attorney Nicole W. Ziccarelli said, “It is imperative we prosecute the very people who are supplying and dealing these deadly drugs to hold someone accountable and make an impact on the drug epidemic we are seeing here at home. I know these are difficult cases to prosecute and ADA Ciaramitaro did an exceptional job prosecuting it.”
