Greensburg, PA -- Westmoreland County Detectives filed theft and receiving stolen property charges against a Hempfield woman accused of stealing more than $3,000 from her former employer.
Detective William Brown charged Rachel Bates, 25, after being alerted of the theft by an investigator with Citizens Bank.
Bates was a teller in March of 2023 at the Citizens Bank in the Hempfield Township Giant Eagle.
Investigators said Bates processed seven customers’ transactions totaling more than $3,300. Police said she then proceeded to reprocess each check and transaction and removed the funds from her cashier drawer.
In April, a routine audit of Bates’ cashier drawer indicated the funds were removed. Bates was the only cashier with access to the drawer.
Video surveillance also supported the claims that Bates duplicated transactions.
Bates was arraigned and released on $10,000 unsecured bail.
