Greensburg, PA – Westmoreland County District Attorney Nicole W. Ziccarelli announces the sentencing of Terry Newton, of Monessen.
Newton, 17, was sentenced by Common Pleas Judge Scott Mears to serve 8 to 25 years in prison followed by a year of supervised release.
For voluntary manslaughter, Newton was sentenced 7.5 to 20 years with an additional six months of incarceration to run consecutively for possession of a firearm by a minor.
Newton pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in April after the shooting death of Amari Altomore, 16, of Monessen.
The shooting occurred in a bedroom of Newton’s home on South 14th Street in Monessen in November of 2022.
Newton fled the scene of the shooting and was not able to be located by law enforcement for several weeks. The firearm was never recovered.
Newton was also ordered to pay restitution.
