Rostraver Township, PA -- Rostraver Township Police charged two women after a dog was found abandoned in an apartment without food or water for approximately two weeks and subsequently led to the dog's euthanasia.
Officers with Rostraver Township Police Department responded to the Rostraver Apartments in January after property management received complaints about a dog barking and found the apartment in deplorable conditions.
The apartment was said to be covered in animal feces, without heat, and unsanitary. The temperature of the apartment was approximately 45 degrees.
A maintenance worker told officers he was cleaning the apartment when he found the dog, a Shih Tzu, in a closet, lifeless and barely breathing.
Police officers took the dog to a local animal hospital, but the dog had to be humanely euthanized because of its poor condition.
A necropsy revealed the dog was suffering from malnutrition, starvation, and hypothermia.
The previous tenant of the apartment, Skylar Majors-Frost, was contacted and told police she was hospitalized for 10 days and asked Kisha Bradley, of Monessen, to care for the dog.
Both women, Majors-Frost and Bradley, were each charged with felony aggravated cruelty to animals, cruelty to animals, and neglect.
