The Montour Township Police Department is proud to announce its participation in Operation Clear Track, a nationwide rail safety initiative aimed at reducing trespassing and fatalities on railroad tracks.
On September 22, 2026, law enforcement agencies across the United States, including the Montour Township Police Department, will be participating in Operation Clear Track, a collaborative effort to promote rail safety and enforcement. This one-day event is designed to raise awareness about the dangers of trespassing on railroad tracks and to reduce the number of fatalities and injuries resulting from these incidents.
During Operation Clear Track, Montour Township police officers will be deployed at various railroad crossings and tracks throughout the township, focusing on high-risk areas where trespassing and other safety violations are common. Officers will be enforcing trespassing laws, warning and educating individuals who are found trespassing, and making traffic stops for persons disobeying railroad signs and signals.
"The safety of our community is our top priority, and Operation Clear Track is an important initiative to raise awareness about the dangers of trespassing on railroad tracks," said Police Chief Philip Savidge. "We urge everyone to stay safe and avoid trespassing on railroad tracks, as it can have devastating consequences."
The department is also handing out safety cards which can be picked up at the station. For more information about the "Operation Life Saver" and "Operation Clear Track" programs, please visit oli.org
