On Monday, the Upper Providence Township Dept of Fire & Emergency Services and UPT Police Department were honored to welcome representatives from Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh USA (HSS) for their observance of Rakṣhā Bandhan.
 

Rakṣha Bandhan—often described as the “Protection Connection”—is a traditional Hindu festival celebrating duty, care, and the bonds that keep communities strong. 

As part of the ceremony, HSS members tied rakhis, symbolic decorated threads representing protection and goodwill, on the wrists of our firefighters and police officers.
 

We appreciated the opportunity to learn about this meaningful tradition and to strengthen our connection with the local community. After the celebration, Fire Chief Mike Risell provided HSS members with a tour of the station and apparatus bay.
